All the Nines...
Last year some of the major studios decided to celebrate the oncoming 2009 with some of their films having the number '9' or 'Nine' in the title. Beginning last year with John August's The Nines, although technically it doesn't really count as it was released in 2008, over the coming months these films will be making their way into cineplexes all over the world in conjunction with the year 2009. 9, Nine, District 9 and $9.99.
Now this may be true, but equally, I may have just made it all up..
Anyways, whether or not the above is true (it isn't) there does seem to be a rash of '9' or 'Nine' related movies due for release this year 2009.
Conicidence or something else...

Nine
Wanna hear Daniel Day Lewis sing? Rob Marshall, he of Chicago fame, directs his next musical in the shape of Nine.
Set in 1950's Italy, Lewis plays a director himself, Guido Contini, who struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.
Also lending their vocal chords are Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman (bet they have some TC related convos in down time), Kate Hudson and Dame Judi Dench.
Expect lots of dancing, singing and people singing into spotlights.

District 9
When he's not writing and directing his adaptation of The Lovely Bones or producing the two-part Hobbit, Peter Jackson has executive produced a sci-fi mockumentary called District 9 for director Neil Blomkamp (he of the Citreon Transformer Adverts)..
Set in Johannesburg after an alien ship has landed, the film charts the relationship between the indigenous people and their new 'immigrants'.
Another film based on a short film, Blomkamp's Alive in Joburg, which comes across as a kind of Alien Nation in a real world sense. Catch the full 7 minute short here.
I wonder if they'll get 'diplomatic immunity'?
